Sugar Land, Texas, is host to a school district system. Skywards is a software firm started by Jim King in Wisconsin in the 1980s.

However, the skyward education system software is used by over 1700 school districts around the world. Besides that, it also provides a number of solutions for business and big company directors, staff members, teachers, parents, nurses, and top management.

Get help with your digital devices

If a device is out of date or having trouble connecting, visit your school district’s digital learning resource center, known as Skyward, for support. Make sure to bring your device with you when making an appointment so staff can examine it in person. Devices that cannot be fixed at Skyward will be sent offsite for repairs.

The amount of time a student must wait depends on how long it takes to get parts and schedule a repair appointment. On average, students are without their devices for two days while they are getting repaired at an offsite repair shop, but if parts must be ordered through another supplier beyond one day that process could take as many as five days.

How do I set up my device for Skyward?

If you’re new to Skyward, it can be a little intimidating at first. Thankfully, there are only a few steps involved in setting up your device for Skyward. Once you get through them once or twice, though, it’ll become second nature and running reports will be quick and easy.

The first thing we’ll do is download an App from Google Play or Apple App Store called Skyward Mobile Portal. This will allow us to run reports from any Android or iOS device from any location with internet access. It also contains security settings that allow our school administrators to control what we can see in Skyward and make changes remotely on our behalf if needed.

Can I keep using my parent portal account?

Skyward is an online learning management system (LMS) that replaces both your parent portal and student management systems. The good news is that yes, you can keep using your parent portal account; however, after April 30th it will no longer be synced with Skyward and all data will be removed.

All current information will still be available through Skywards dashboard after April 30th, but if there is any information from earlier years that may have been entered in an offline manner (i.e. via traditional paper student reports or through a printed parent portal), please make sure to back-up any of those records before moving forward into Skyward as they will not transfer with your accounts or students over to Skyward. Should I reset my student passwords?

Where can I find Skyward resources at FBISD?

If you’re a parent, if your child is struggling in school or if you’re concerned they are not getting enough sleep, check out our sleep resources. Skyward is only available through your student’s school district so look for flyers and posters around campus with Skyward information.

Most schools share their Skyward log-in information on their websites. If you don’t have access to your child’s school email address, call to find out how they sign into Skyward from home.

Does my child have a teacher in Skyward this year?

If you have a child enrolled in an FBISD school, check out Skyward. Your child’s information will be there and up-to-date if they do indeed have a teacher assigned in Skyward. If your child does not appear in Skyward, it may be because he or she has been enrolled in a district school that is not using our new software.

Use your student’s social security number as well as last name and date of birth to check their attendance and grades through PowerSchool Parent Portal. If these still do not produce results, contact your school office for assistance.

Students won’t have logins yet – what should they do when logging in is open?

Students will be required to enter an email address and password before accessing Skyward. Until then, they can log in with their student ID number as well as pin numbers. If a student is having issues logging in, they should contact their school counselor or principal.

During login periods when students are able to receive logins from counselors, parents may reach out directly to their child’s school for assistance with logging into Skyward if necessary.

Class lists aren’t displaying – what should students do if they can’t see their class list yet?

They should reach out to their teacher and let them know they can’t see their class list, then keep an eye on their email inbox. We expect a few bugs will surface as students and teachers get started with Skyward over these next few days, but we’ll work quickly to resolve them.

Students who don’t receive an assignment from a teacher by Tuesday should bring a copy of their schedule (print or digital) and a report card (if one was issued) with them to school for classroom instruction. The district is doing its best not only to fix any current issues but also to put processes in place so students are ready for Skyward in 2017-18. During today’s FBISD board meeting, Superintendent Dr.

My child’s grades are missing, now what do I do?!

If your child’s grades are missing, don’t panic. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do next: 1. Reach out to your child’s teacher via email (not a parent-teacher conference, just an email). 2. If no response is received within a few days, reach out again via phone call (again avoid a parent-teacher conference; just have a brief conversation). 3. If there is still no response from your child’s teacher or principal after reaching out twice, it may be time for you to contact either Lisa Benavides or Dr. Adams directly.

If a family member gets sick and misses an entire grading period, will they still be able to see their grades after the first day of school, instead of waiting until the fall semester begins as usual?

Yes, just log into your Skyward Family Access account, and it will take you through a simple process to see your child’s grades. The only stipulation is that they must have completed at least 10 assignments in order for them to show up.

However, we do suggest keeping tabs on their grades through email throughout their absence. If they have any assignments due or tests coming up during that time period, they can easily complete those online and not affect their attendance or punctuality status (if applicable). Just remember: They are expected to make up any work missed upon return.

Changing schools/enrolling at a new school mid-year; how does that affect attendance reporting (see next question) ?…

Students who are changing schools (for any reason) or returning after being gone for more than 10 days in a row, must be enrolled in FBISD for at least five full days during each month of their enrollment, including September and January.

If they are not enrolled for five days each month, it will appear as if they were not enrolled on our monthly attendance reports. For example: if a student has attended two full weeks of school since Sept. 12, but was not enrolled on Sept. 17, 19, or 20 (or Jan 2nd), those absences would be counted as missing and put on report cards sent home with your child.

Conclusion

I hope these examples have given you a good idea of how to write an effective essay for a specific subject. Remember that essays can be structured in many different ways, but these examples are a great place to start. Now, get out there and impress them with your superior writing skills!
