Dark and Darker Mobile Release Date Delay Announcement
On October 22nd, 2024, the Dark and Darker Mobile dev team announced that they had ‘decided to adjust the Dark and Darker official launch timeline to the first half of 2025’. This is a step away from its original late 2024 release timeline.
The reason for the delay stems from the dev team’s plan to enhance the ‘survival and escape’ core gameplay loop. This, in hindsight, is one of the most endearing and core elements of the game which they also claim will lead to a ‘stronger foundation’ that provides Dark and Darker players with a ‘more enjoyable and lasting experience’.
The game already had a global beta test in early August 2024 from which we can assume they’ve learned a lot from player feedback. Based on initial reactions to the beta, the Dark and Darker was in a good state and felt true-to-life to the original PC version, except it was (expectedly) a little ‘dumbed down’ to fit the Dark and Darker mobile space.
For now, though, we think that the change in release schedule is a good thing as it gives the dev team a bit more leeway and time to polish up the game.
But this also means players will need just a bit longer to get to dungeon crawling on mobile in Dark and Darker.
How is Dark and Darker Mobile Different from Dark and Darker on PC?
For the most part, with the game’s initial impressions from the open beta in August, the Dark and Darker mobile port seems to do things a bit differently from the OG version on PC. Most notably is the game is considerably easier to pick up on Dark and Darker mobile with less in-depth mechanics.
One good example of this is the change from a first-person perspective on PC to a third-person perspective on Dark and Darker mobile. In our opinion, this is a welcome change because FPS games on mobile can feel a bit clunky, and third-person in Dark and Darker’s case works well for the platform.
Additionally, the Dark and Darker mobile version will also feature 6 main Dark and Darker classes at launch including – Fighter, Barbarian, Wizard, Rogue, Cleric, and Ranger. This means the port is missing out on Warlock and Druid at launch.
Another key change we know about the mobile port of Dark and Darker is that it will only feature two dungeons at launch, the Goblin Caves and the Forgotten Castle. We expect the included dungeons selection to expand over time so it’s not that big of a deal for now.
Besides that, there are some other changes but for the most part, Dark and Darker Mobile is shaping up to be an excellent port to bring a formidable dungeon crawler to our pockets. At least, we hope.
